Most Americans eat too much fat and not enough carbohydrates, so try to balance that out.

Exercise:  You need two types of exercise: aerobic and resistance training. Aerobic exercises including jogging and bicycling are great ways to actively burn calories.  Resistance training is not just for bodybuilder.  When you build muscles, they will require more calories from your diet to rebuild themselves after each workout.

Follow both of these and your metabolism will skyrocket and your weight will drop significantly.
