Because employees are the workforce, management, blue collar, white collar or any other designation, they are the ones essentially running the company. Providing good workplace health practices to their employees are one of the major concerns of all companies.

There is more to just having healthier employees when a workplace is safe and conscious of their health. Working in a safe environment and being healthier make employees more productive with their jobs. The article will give some ideas on common workplace health practices that will help companies on promoting good, healthy and safe workplace for their employees.

Workplace health might be affected by some psychological issues inside the workplace. Psychological issues or mental health problems usually arises when employee is experiencing a huge amount of stress, burnt out, or maybe some form of harassment or violence inside the workplace. Immediate action should be done to address these problems as these can affect an employee's productivity.

A person's physical and emotional health might be affected by the amount of stress that he or she might be experiencing. Considering the stress levels of each employees should be remembered by the company even during an economic downturn. The signs of workplace health deteriorating due to stress are signs of fatigue, employees losing interest in work, headaches, social withdrawals, trouble concentrating and employees more irritable and depressed.

To combat stress, a good workplace health program should have activities that promote stress relief. Activities such as teambuilding, camping, sports activities can help employees who are feeling stressed relax more inside the workplace. It will be helpful if the employees are given the chance, even for a short period of time, to forget about the pressure of their jobs.

Two common causes of psychological problems that are overlooked in a working environment are harassment in the form of verbal and emotional abuse. Though the effects of these are not immediately seen, employees might be tortured mentally for a long time from the time the abuse took place. People often feel less confident and have lower self esteem as a result of repeated verbal or emotional abuse, so a good workplace health policy should have a zero-tolerance for any kind of harassment whatsoever.

Another important factor to look out when considering workplace health is being burnt out. Long term stress is usually one of the common reasons to be burnout. Companies should be able to help their employees avoid being burnt out by work.

In the workplace burnouts usually manifest itself, first as a person who is compelled to prove oneself and works extremely hard while neglecting his or her own needs, such as letting go of hobbies and sacrificing social interaction with family and friends. As time goes on, withdrawal and depression starts to set in and behavioral changes become obvious to others. Some studies prove that having a support group amongst employees can be helpful, that is why this will be better to include in the company's workplace health program.

Harassment can be reduced or even eliminated in the workplace just by adhering to no tolerance policies. Stress and burnout, on the other hand, can be solved simply by making a company more social and basically more fun to be in. Increased efficiency, interest in the workplace, lower turnover rates and higher workplace health cost savings are just some of the benefits that a company can gain from implementing these simple measures.
