To get the most from a pomegranate plant, planting and pruning tips should be followed. For one year, the plants are in a nursery situation and after one year is passed then sufficient development should be there in young plants for orchard planting. Higher density plants should be obtained because these can increase the production with numerous fruit crops. Maintenance of separate production units is preferred in case of pomegranate so pomegranate is planted at traditional distances.
Distance of 5.5 to 6 meter should be maintained between plants. 40 - 50 kg of per tree production could be expected annually. If the trees are planted more wider then yields would be more higher. If the trees are not planted at traditional distance then the color of the pomegranate fruit will be poor and fruit scarring may also occur. Pruning and harvesting may become a problem. While planting each plant should be reduced to one single stem and the height should be maintained at 50 cm above the ground level.

The excessive number of secondary limbs of the plant should be removed to avoid overcrowding. This is also called as pruning. Pruning means to remove the excessive overcrowded growth, suckers and deadwood. Pomegranate trees need proportionate moisture to produce better crops. The pomegranate tree should start giving fruits from third year of age. If a tree produces large number of fruits then harvesting should be started sometime before complete maturity. This is because the ripening will go on during the storage and post harvest periods. If harvesting is not done at required time or postponed then there is possibility of splitting and that may result in fruit loss.
The stem of pomegranate plant is strong and thick and so the fruit can be best detached by clipping. At least two selection should be made for clipping. Only that fruit should be removed which is proportionately colored and sized at the first selection. Packing of fruits is the next important task. To make a good pack of the well presented fruits, size grading is necessary. Fruits are normally packed into single layer of trays.

Once you've harvested your pomegranate fruits, you can include them in recipes, drinks, and more. Pomegranate is extremely healthy for you, due to the large antioxidant content. Pomegranate also has no shortage of vitamins A, B6, B12, C, and E vitamins. Pomegranate has the ability to help you lose weight, increase your energy and you can even lose weight with pomegranate.
