Why Older Games Are Great For Younger Children

If you have a young child, not old enough to be trusted with the care that is required for the more fragile game systems, there is a great alternative that is also quite cheap. Older game systems such as the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, and several others are just the thing for younger children. These systems use a cartridge that is a lot more durable than a compact disc that is used by the newer systems, and will survive things that CDs and DVDs will not such as spending time in the pocket of a coat that gets tossed around or riding in a backpack.

One of the best things about these systems is that all of the games have been already released, and are available on the used market for a small fraction of what they cost when they were brand new. The graphics may not be as stunning as the newest systems, but some of the older games such as Donkey Kong Country do have some great graphics.

Some of the games that you play now such as Final Fantasy got their start on older systems, and are just as fun to play as the new ones. I have Final Fantasy II for the Super Nintendo, and I still play it quite a bit. Another one of my favorites is The Legend Of Zelda, A Link To The Past, which I can spend hours playing. So if you have young children who want to play games, consider starting them with some of these great classics, and you just might end up playing them more than the kids do.
