What's So Great About the H2 Zoom Recorder?

The H2 Recorder isn't the best recorder on the market but it's competing with pro models selling for three times as much. The H2 Zoom has twice as many mics as any other devices of it's kind. There's a couple reasons why lots of them are being sold.

The Price

When it first came out it sold for a few hundred bucks but today you can get it for well under $200.

These are a few of my favorite things:

Best all-around bang for your buck

Surround sound capability due to the multiple onboard microphones.

Nice on your wallet and also small in your hand!

Couple not-so-good features:

The display screen could have been a little larger.

It's audio limiter reacts on the slow side.

An impressive feature though is the H2 Recorder's ability to take MP3 and WAV formats and record them in several different size resolutions. Pro quality sound is available at 24-bit/96kHz when you need it. For a rehearsal you can use an mp3 setting so it's nice to have the option and save some memory if you want to.

H2 Zoom is for:

1. Conference and seminars.

2. Professional media groups

3. Podcasters

4. Any music event

5. Songwriters

6. Musicians rehearsals

7. Theatrical rehearsals

The H2 Zoom's front screen grill is very cool looking, reminding me of an old classic studio condenser microphone from the 40's or 50's. It's got enough of the key and useful features for most people, and even some cool, but not-so-important ones... but if you can find use for a metronome and guitar tuner then you're in for a good surprise.

You can download audio from it as well. Sometimes in a tiny machine like this it can be difficult to do some of the editing tasks you eventually need to get done... no problem, just plug it into the USB port on your computer to work more comfortably with all the editing functions on your big screen.

The unequaled W-XY microphone pick-up patterns work like this: a front 90 degree cardioid, a rear 120 cardioid and a360 degree polar pattern.

This is a fresh and unique feature of the H2 Zoom… quadruple mic capsule, which actually gives you various types of surround recording, including a format that stores 360° information onto 4 tracks which you can extract later into 5.1 surround sound.

You could for example set the H2 Recorder in the center of a rock band and get a nice surround sound mix with the kit in the rear and bass and guitars all around.
