What to Consider Before Installing a Fountain in Your Backyard Pond

One way to increase the aesthetic appeal of your backyard water garden is by adding a beautiful fountain to it. Installing a pond fountain requires some careful planning, but once you've taken the proper preliminary steps, the installation itself is fairly straightforward.

One of the most important things to consider is your pond's location. If your pond sits on a slope, it may be difficult to add a fountain unless you also plan on adding waterfalls. In addition, soil that is too rocky or too fine will not provide the most stable environment for a functioning fountain.

The next aspect to consider is your pond's relation to a good source of electricity. If you don't have anywhere to plug your pond fountain in, there is no point in trying to install one. Your fountain runs on an electrical fountain pump, so without access to electricity there is no way for water flow to occur.

Finally, you need to look at the size of your pond. The pond fountain you choose to install must have a water flow that is no bigger than what your pond can contain. All of the water needs to flow from the fountain pump back into your pond without expelling over the sides. Some umbrella and spray fountains release water in a fairly wide arc, and many backyard water gardens are too small to handle it.

Utilizing moving water in your pond is a great way to enhance its appeal and increase your enjoyment of it. Taking the steps outlined above will help prevent any issues once you start installing your pond fountain.
