We've all got one, (unless you live in a skip), and it will no doubt be adorned with a knocker or a bell, will probably have a letter box and a number, and most likely will have some kind of handle. Your front door is in many circumstances the first impression people have of your home and sometimes you, so it needs to make the right first impression. First impressions can shape your entire relationship with someone, so if it's your potential in-laws coming to visit for the first time, then you want the first thing they see to be looking its best.
So what does your front door say about you? Here are some guidelines:
Broken
Does your door have smashed glass, a missing letter box, have kicked-in panels or is it even removed completely and lying in the front garden. Does your handle not turn or the letter box not open or is there a gaping sinkhole where the door mat should be?
This says about you are possibly unreliable, lacking in DIY skills, or possibly a squatter.
Barred
Do you have bars in a thick grate barring your door, and have similar ones over your windows? Do you have 6 locks, 3 dead bolts and a pit bull terrier trained to attack anything that comes through your door?
This could mean that you are either telling the whole world not to disturb you, or that you have gone on holiday and don't want to get burgled.
Gold
Is your front door made of gold, with a diamond encrusted door knocker, a Vivian Westwood letter box and a Gucci door mat? Is your front door worth more than the rest of your whole house?
This shows that you may not have your priorities quite right, or that you should move to a better house and consider getting a financial advisor.
Dirty
Is your front door under a thick layer of manure or dog dirt, or are there several hypodermic needles lying around the door mat, or maybe it's just a bit on the grimy side. Has a bird flown into the glass and slowly decomposed on your top step?
This says that you quite possibly have bad personal hygiene, or that you are just a bit lazy. You also might need some
double glazing repairs. Of course if you're as lazy as you seem then
UPVC windows won't be very high on your to-do list.
Whatever your front door may be like, you can be sure that having it looking at its best will make you feel more inclined to have visitors and give them a better first impression of your home.
