What is bullying?
Bullying is when someone keeps doing or saying things to have power over another person.
Bullying can occur in any context in which human beings interact with each other. This includes school, church, family, the workplace, home and neighbourhoods. It is even a common push factor in migration. Bullying can exist between social groups, social classes and even between countries the effects of bullying can be serious and even fatal.
Physical bullying is any unwanted physical contact between the bully and the victim. This is one of the most easily identifiable forms of bullying.
Some of the ways they bully other people are by: calling them names, saying or writing nasty things about them, leaving them out of activities, not talking to them, threatening them, making them feel uncomfortable or scared, taking or damaging their things, hitting or kicking them.
Why do some people bully?
- To get attention or things
- To make people afraid
- Might be jealous of the person they are bullying

How to overcome bullying?
- Stand strong
- Telling them to stop and walking away whenever the bullying starts.
- You have a right to be safe
- Write down what's been happening to you and give it to an adult you trust.
Bullying at School
School bullying is a type of bullying that occurs in connection with education, either inside or outside of school.
School bullying is a serious problem worldwide. It's not a new problem either; parents and grandparents can recall bullying incidents from their school years.
One student or a group can bully another student or a group of students. Bullying can also be perpetrated by teachers and the school system itself.
School mediation - a way to deal with school bullying and violence
In our second online conference "Coping with School Bullying and Violence at the local regional level" that was hold from October 24th to November 18th, 2005, we brought together 34 participants - representativesí local authorities, local nongovernmental organizations dealing with school bullying and violence from 21 countries throughout the world.

One focus of our discussions was on school mediation, a way to deal with school bullying and violence.

School mediation aims at reducing or stopping a conflict inside school between two persons. The conflict can be either among two pupils or students, two teachers, a teacher and a pupil/student, a teacher and a parent.
Local partnership dealing with school bullying and violence
It is necessary to act locally because school bullying and violence remains the issues of a particular "school community". Violence at school cannot be tackled on an exclusive way, particularly from the family and neighbourhood environments
Effects and media programs
In the last years in several countries, there were several research reports indicating an increasing number of scenes depicting violence in TV programs.
The issue of school bullying has gained significant public exposure recently. An issue as complex and diverse as bullying requires a multi-tiered approach where all key stakeholders play their part.
