You will see the words viral marketing or someone will say, 'The video went viral.' and you wonder what the hell is viral marketing. Because you can forward an email or link a video to your Facebook account viral marketing is such a buzz words today. Should you know what it is and importantly how do you use it in your marketing campaign.

First question: What is Viral Makreting? Word of Mouth marketing is what it is in a nutshell. Wikipedia calls it; 'The buzzwords viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness'' It is list in a Google search over 6,000,000 times. As with anything to do with the Internet you have everyone screaming that you need viral marketing. I think if you ask 10 different people you will get 10 different answers. This kind of marketing happens in the background of the Internet. Once you begin the campaing for viral marketing that is the end of your involvment. The rest is handled by users of the Internet. The better your reputation and relationships you have the more likely and farther the viral marketing will takeoff. Your reputation as an expert will help greatly. Once the reader reads the information what cause have you given them to pass it on? What is in it for them is what they are thinking: community help or financial help. But it will not be passed on if it does not catch the attention of the reader.

Second questions is: How do you use it? Viral marketing is depended on your relationships and their relationship you enhance your chances of success by how many quality connections you have. Use such sites as Facebook, Twiiter and LinkedIn to annouce that you have posted your latest blog or article. But viral marketing can be your email signature. The signature at the bottom of your email should contain a link to your opportunity. As you send it to someone, they may forward it to someone else. How effective it is up to how good the copy is. Article directories allow your to put a message in a n Author's resource box. People read the article and forward to someone else or write about it in their blog. The more connected your message is the better chance of it becoming viral. You may start off by using an article as a blog post so those subscribed to yor blog will see it; then post the article on a directory and follow-up with a video that summarizes it. Good content and useful information are very helpful.

Last question is what do you need to do? Viral marketing relys on the readers to pass it on to people they know. You need to join social media sites and be an active participant in them. Time and timing are two important factors when working with social networking sites. Time to make connections on these site is critical; people need to be able to trust you and what you have to offer before they are willing to expose their network to your content. As a person passes the email or video along to their network they are giving it an endorsement of it. No one wants someone to get back to them and say what lousy content it was. In addition to online networks, you may develop large email lists of customers who already like your products and will likely pass it on to their network.

The idea of viral marketing sounds good but once delivered your have no control over it. The message and how it travels will be effected by your reputation as a leader. You must make connections and build relationships with others on the Internet so they can trust you and what message you have to send. Look to connect your message in many forms so that it appears in many different sites. All these actions will help your viral marketing strategy.
