Upcoming Events: Timing and Promotions

If you want to let people know about local nightlife and local shows, then you need to plan your timing well. Just like the porridge was too hot, too cold or just right in Goldilocks and the Three Bears, your timing too can be off in either direction. Let people know about upcoming events too early and they might not remember them when the time rolls around to buy tickets or attend the event. On the other end of the spectrum, however, is the fact that if you wait until too close to time to tell people about an event, they might not have time to make the necessary arrangements or they might already have plans. So, there is a middle ground there for good timing. One thing you will want to consider is how people plan for different types of events.

Some events are the type that people plan for well in advance. Think about people planning vacations - they book reservations, they take time off work, and they block that time off their calendar months in advance of the actual trip. If you are promoting festivals or retreats or any other type of event where people might need to arrange for travel or purchase tickets well in advance, then pretend that you're helping them to book their vacation and get the word out in advance. On the other hand, if the most people will need is perhaps childcare or a switched shift to head to a concert or something similar, then you still need to let them know in advance, just not quite as far in advance. Ticket sales will obviously factor in too. For tickets that are likely to sell out very quickly, you need to make sure your audience is aware not just of the event but also when tickets become available. For events where selling out will happen closer to show time if at all, you don't have quite the same concerns.

There are also, of course, events that will do better when promoted very close to the time that they are happening. These events may not have tickets being sold, and they may even be recurring events. Rather than being the big plan-for events, these are the ones you want to just slide into place to give people something great to do on the weekend. Getting these events on local calendars where anybody looking to find out what will be going on in the local area can see them is the best chance of creating ongoing visibility.

Upcoming events benefit greatly from well-timed promotions. What better way for local nightlife and local shows to get the word out than through the online forum? FlyJBA makes it easy for promoters and seekers alike.
