There are mainly two types of membership websites.

A free site and a paid site where you need to pay a fee to be a member. The two types of membership sites have one thing in common. Their memberships are composed of individuals who have a common interest or share a common need.

You can still purchase a domain, have a website and pick who to admit or not, while still not paying for a membership. This is done when the earnings are intended to come from sales to members after they sign up the site. There are network websites that are offered for free that one can use. Two examples of free membership sites are MSN and groups on Yahoo. It costs nothing to set these sites up and there is no charge at all for a person to sign up. There are no paid administrators or moderators.

On every site, there are rules on how to join and the code of conduct for that particular website. The website topics are many and diverse. There are loads of supportĀ sites for people with health problems or concerns and for persons who have grieved the loss of loved ones. There are websites for those who are passionate about crafts like quilting or woodworking.

For those who love to travel, there are also sites offered for them.
No matter what age group you belong there is a website that suits your preference and style.
For each member, there is an available chat software and a space alloted for documents, links and for posting photos. If there's one thing these free websites don't have, it is access to lists and specialized information like music lessons.

On the other hand, paid for membership websites are built by people or businesses to make money by supplying information and access to numerous fields of instructions, specific information or lists. The operation of the membership sites are either done by those who own the site or those who are paid by the site owner to monitor and look after the site. The subjects for paid for membership sites are even more mixed than the free sites and undoubtedly more specialized.
