Perfect mountain slopes during winter makes Breckenridge a world class skiing and snowboarding destination. But there are plenty more you can do in the snow that doesn't involve skis or snowboards. Breckenridge has lots of perfect quaint trails perfect for snowshoeing. Snowshoeing is simply walking in the snow, and is virtually inexpensive. It is one of the best ways to burn calories and keep healthy without having to exert too much. You can enjoy it alone or have marvelous fun with some friends. For people who wants to spend every waking moment in the snow when having a break from Breckenridge skiing or snowboarding, this is a perfect alternative. Snowshoeing has been around for hundreds of years and is becoming the fastest growing popular sport to do for all ages.

The only experience snowshoeing require is the experience you've had years perfecting, walking. Snowshoeing is a perfect activity to do alone; it is very peaceful and relaxing. You just have to have the right shoe gear, a great destination and maybe a little music to keep you company. You can also choose to do this with a few friends, or a whole lot of people. Without requiring you to exert too much muscle effort and is very inexpensive and is a perfect activity to keep you moving during the winter season.


With a great pair of snowshoes, explore the best areas to snowshoe in Breckenridge, you might be surprised it's just a few yards away from the place you're staying, you just need your poles and water to keep you hydrated. You can get snowshoes in one of the many sports shop in Breckenridge but you will be able to rent one for the day, just be sure to get the right fit for your size and weight. Suit up with the warmest and most comfortable clothing you have make sure to bring your poles to help yourself maneuver in the snow. Make sure to bring extra clothes because you might want to shed some of the heavy clothing you have on when you get yourself going if you're planning on staying out a bit longer, don't ever go out without bringing snacks and something to drink, it's a light activity but you will be surprised when you'll need food to keep your energy up. For first timers, make sure to stay in areas with low elevation you can go to higher altitude when you get used to the thin mountain air. It is highly recommended that you take a guide for your first snowshoe expedition; they're really helpful in giving you tips and their experienced and know the area very well. Plan a picnic if you're going with your friends. With all the great spots to picnic you are bound to stumble into one.


You can take a different trail each day; Breckenridge is full of perfect spots for snowshoeing, Breckenridge Nordic Ski Center hosts 30 km. of trails for all levels of snowshoeing. Right on the Breckenridge free bus route, near Peak 8 Base on Ski Hill Road, is one great trail you should consider taking. Equipment rental and guided tours are available. Similarly, Gold Run Nordic Center (off Tiger Run Road at the Breckenridge Golf Course) and Frisco Nordic Center (on Hwy. 9) have wide areas for different skill levels and good places for equipment rental. I cannot stress enough to first timers to take a guide. Guides can talk you through the very basic requirements of snowshoeing.

But if you're adventurous enough and want to discover and explore the wilderness go on right ahead, just don't wander too far away, you don't want to get lost in your first snowshoeing exploration. There are hundreds of great trails in Breckenridge for snowshoeing; chances are, if you ask shop owners or locals there is one near the place you're staying in and they'll gladly point you in the right direction, always make sure to stay in your trail.

Make sure to bring a camera with you. Snow shoeing is a great activity to enjoy with your family and friends and you might want to capture that. Snowshoeing has a peaceful and relaxing nature to it. Be ready to encounter the occasional wildlife in your walks, beautiful snow capped pine trees and funny and unforgettable moments in the snow.
