Most network marketers are struggling through absolutely no fault of their own. Many struggle for years without any success and as a result, feel inadequate, depressed and frustrated. They are struggling because they've been lied to.

They were told the two fundamental lies that killed any chance of their long term success...

1. It's sales business
2. It's a numbers game

And it was no fault of the upline that taught them these two lies, because their upline learned this from his or her upline and so forth. When you duplicate these fundamentally flawed philosophies, you are duplicating long term struggle and frustration.

The truth is, network marketing is a business built on strong, meaningful relationships. The more relationships (i.e. Networks) you build, the luckier you'll get. Marketing is the channel through which build these relationships. There is no relationship building when you think it's sales business and it's a numbers game.

Network Marketing IS NOT a Sales Business

A while ago, I talked a lady on the telephone. She has been networking for over 30 years and had reached significant levels in several companies. She had also been burned a few times too, which was why she's been with more than one company...

Anyway, at the time, I was looking for a new MLM company and she was calling me about a new startup company she had just joined. She began telling me about how the company's line of personal care products (shampoo, shower gel, skin care etc) did not contain one single harmful ingredient and how she had been looking for many years for a company with such a line of products.

Back then, I was poised to join another company, and this lady wanted to compare her company's products. Both companies had a product called Coral Calcium, so she wanted to compare the ingredients. It turned out that both products had decent amounts of high quality Calcium and Magnesium - the key ingredients, but her product also had every other vitamin under the sun, so it cost a lot more.

And this is what she proceeded to tell me... "You must have the absolute best product, because if you don't your customers will go to someone else." She was obviously very product focused and had spent a lot of time and effort on finding a company with "the best product." To her, MLM was a sales business and "the best product" on the market was her big selling point.

But The 4th Pillar - "An Amazing Product at a Value Price" - is only one of The 5 Pillars of Network Marketing.

My personal mentor consistently states that Network Marketing is a teaching and mentoring business. Not a sales business.

People join YOU, not companies. Therefore, if you're getting bogged down in studying vitamins, toxins, anti-aging, how all the clever scientists behind all the formulations got their degrees, or any product or service, you're wasting your time.

Instead, you need to study people, because they are your REAL product in network marketing. Learn how to help other people achieve their dreams. Build people up, build a close bond, and they will build the business and you will retain them too.

Network Marketing IS NOT a numbers game

Heavy hitters will tell you that network marketing is a numbers game. Well let me ask you, how would you feel if someone treated you as a number? Mmm...exactly, you wouldn't feel too special. Can you imagine literally, a whole bunch of faceless numbers, dressed in white, walking down a city street?

Real people are not numbers. Real people all have desires, dreams, goals, concerns, fears, insecurities. Real people have families and friends that they love and cherish. If you treat them like a number, they will treat you just the same and you are destined for failure.

I see this lie in action everyday with all sorts of hyped up marketing on the internet. The headlines read "This Company's Top 1% Secret", "That Company's Top 1% Secret", "How I Generation 1,938 Leads A Day!", "How I Made $57,923.46 Last Month", all for the purpose of getting you on their notification list so they can bombard you with their promotions.

This lie causes people to become recruiters, not sponsors. It's all about recruit, recruit, recruit. A recruiter never really knows the people they personally sponsor. A recruiter never knows their people's dreams or goals or why they are building the business, or the names of their spouse or children.

Network marketing is not a numbers game, it's a teaching and mentoring business. To succeed in the long term, you need to become a mentor with a servant's heart.

So study people and build solid business relationships - these are the keys to your business success.
