The Sony Ericsson Spiro Provides Functionality In A Stylish Slider Handset

Sony Ericsson has recently announced a new arrival to their range of slider handsets. The Sony Ericsson Spiro is an aesthetically pleasing Walkman handset which boasts a great range of everyday features ranging from a digital camera, a versatile media player and social networking applications.

The handset itself measures 92x 48x 16.8 mm and weighs in at just 90 g making it a pocket friendly handset which is also comfortable to hold and use on the move.

The Sony Ericsson Spiro is equipped with a 2 mega pixel digital camera. This operates at a pixel resolution of 1600x 1200 pixels providing decent quality still images. The camera also provides the option to shoot video as well as taking still images.

In order to stay connected to cellular networks, the Sony Ericsson Spiro utilises class 10 versions of both EDGE & GPRS. This also provides access to the Internet via its WAP browser. In order to connect to other compatible mobile phones, Bluetooth version 2.1 is provided as standard. This allows users to carry out various tasks such as sharing contact information or media files with people who have a compatible mobile phone and are in the same vicinity. In order to connect the handset to a computer a micro USB connection is provided. This allows users to transfer media files as well as carry out other tasks such as backing up contact information from the internal phonebook.


For storage of data such as media files, 5 MB of internal storage is provided as standard. A micro SD slot is also provided for the same purpose and can accommodate a memory card of up to 16 GB. This should prove ample for storing a good number of music tracks, video clips and photos. The internal phonebook can store up to 2000 entries and features the popular Photocall function. This allows users to assign a photo to a particular contact within the phonebook. Then, whenever that person is in contact the corresponding photo is displayed on the phone's screen.

The TFT screen measures 2.2 inches. Up to 256K colours can be displayed within a pixel layout of 240x 320. This provides decent levels of clarity and detail of on screen imagery.

In order to alert users to incoming calls and text messages, both vibration and ringing are utilised along with the option to assign MP3 music files as ringtones. This allows users to customise their handset so they can hear whichever song they choose whenever the phone rings.


The Sony Ericsson Spiro features the manufacturer's renowned Walkman Technology. This provides music playback of a high standard. A number of different music and video files are supported by the internal media player. A stereo FM radio player and a number of pre-installed and downloadable games are also provided to keep users entertained. Fans and social networking are sure to appreciate Facebook and twitter applications which offer direct access to these popular websites, so users can share their thoughts with friends and family in seconds.
