Some religions teach the theory of "reincarnation." Literally translated as "to be made flesh again," this ancient doctrine is based on the belief that a person's spirit or soul survives after death and is reborn in a new body, whether human or animal. So when Jesus claimed he was the Messiah, he explained that Elijah had "returned" to earth, not in the "chariot of fire" he had left in, but had returned spiritually to work with John the Baptist. And as the Bible explains, John the Baptist was still an individual, but he spoke with the "power of Elijah." If John the Baptist had been the "reincarnation" of Elijah, then how could Elijah have later appeared to Jesus spiritually on the Mount of Transfiguration? The secret truth is that spirits in the Spirit World only "cooperate" with people on earth. They do not "reincarnate" as someone else.
