Samsung has recently announced the release of a stunning new handset, the i9000 Galaxy S. Boasting an advanced touch screen, five mega pixel digital camera and Android operating system, this technologically advanced Smartphone looks sure to be a hit for the manufacturer.

The five mega pixel digital camera takes excellent quality snapshots thanks to a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944. A number of image enhancing features simplifies the task of taking quality photos. These include Autofocus, touch focus and face & smile detection as well as geo-tagging which uses GPS to record the location at which a photo was taken. The camera can also shoot high quality video in 720p at a rate of 30 frames per second along with a secondary video shooting in VGA quality.

In order to provide the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S with optimum connectivity levels, a number of features are utilised. In order to stay connected to cellular networks, class 12 versions of both EDGE & GPRS are utilised. Connection to the Internet is provided by both Wi-Fi and 3G. In areas covered by 3G, an HSDPA connection provides speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second (alongside HSUPA at 5.76 mega bytes per second). Whenever a signal is detected from a wireless Internet router, Wi-Fi takes advantage of this providing users with a much faster connection, and therefore enhanced web browsing experience. In order to connect the Samsung Galaxy S to a computer, a micro USB connection is provided. This allows a number of tasks to be carried out such as transferring media files and backing up contact information.

Depending on the model, either 8 GB or 16 GB of internal storage is provided. Even the basic version, therefore allows an impressive amount of data to be stored. A micro SD slot is also provided for Data Storage and can accommodate a memory card of up to 32 GB. The internal phonebook is certainly spacious and can store a practically unlimited number of entries and fields and boasts the popular Photocall feature.

Due to the large 4 inch touch screen, the Samsung Galaxy S isn't the smallest handset in the world although it is extremely slimline at just 9.9 mm and its light weight of 118 g makes it a reasonably pocket friendly handset.

The 4 inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen can display up to 16M colours within a pixel layout of 480x 800 pixels. This results in stunningly high quality display of on screen images. An accelerometer sensor is built into the handset which automatically rotates the on screen image dependent upon the orientation of the phone. This means is that it can be viewed in both portrait and landscape which is ideal for viewing video files.

An impressive level of everyday functionality is achieved thanks to be long list of extra features and applications, and the Android OS (v2.1, Eclair). These features range from a versatile media player, document viewer of and a number of applications which offer direct access to popular websites such as YouTube, Google and Picasa.

Samsung have a reputation for building high quality touch screen mobiles, and the Galaxy S is a fine example of the manufacturer's capabilities.
