Peter DeGeorge belongs to one of the most philanthropic families in the Palm Beach area. Peter’s parents donated millions of dollars to the Boys & Girls Club in West Palm Beach and other causes. Peter DeGeorge’s father, Lawrence DeGeorge, who passed away in 2009 at the age of 88 and mother, Florence, were the ultimate humanitarians and Peter has continued to carry on the tradition.

Peter has donated generously over the years to after-school programs, thus helping children stay in school. He has even volunteered as a football coach. He started the not-for-profit Riviera Beach Youth Football League with over $100,000 out of his own pocket. His program was to have football teams together with larger leagues, mirroring the private baseball and soccer clubs. Children from the ages of five to fifteen were to play tackle football from June to December. There would be a sign-up fee, along with game tickets and fundraisers, which would eventually make the organization to become self supporting. Unfortunately, the project was folded after a few short years.

Peter DeGeorge is a well-known businessman and respected member of the community. When the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fundraising dinner took place in March at Club Colette, Peter DeGeorge was there to support the country’s best pediatric cancer hospital. The CEO and director of St. Jude gave a briefing of the research being carried on at the hospital. He talked about the discovery-focused and hypothesis testing studies and clinical trials. The clinics and laboratories are situated within close proximity of each other, so doctors and researchers can coordinate the theoretical and practical aspects.

A St. Jude faculty member was seated at the table with Peter DeGeorge so he could share his experiences and answer any of Mr. DeGeorge’s questions regarding the hospital. A St. Jude patient was also present at the dinner to show his gratitude for what the hospital has done for him. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is acknowledged internationally for the pioneering work it does in finding cures and saving children with cancer Since Peter DeGeorge’s philanthropic focus has always been youth centered, the opportunity was perfect.

St. Jude was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas and is located in Memphis, Tenn. The hospital is known for sharing its discoveries with all medical associations all around the planet. It is the first, and to date the only, pediatric cancer center that is classified as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Thanks to the contributions from people like Peter DeGeorge, children are never denied treatment simply because the family is not in a position to pay or does not carry insurance. St. Jude is supported monetarily by ALSAC and its organization for raining funds. Mr. DeGeorge’s contributions towards all activities that help elevate the sufferings of children and make the world a better place are appreciated by young and old alike.
