The importance of wearing in new shoes

Buying a new pair of shoes is not always as easy as it might be. Shoes that look and feel great when you try them on for the first time may not look so great when worn with your favourite outfit, or may hurt your feet if worn for a long period of time.

One of the main reasons that we wear shoes is to try and provide us with some protection. Our feet aren't great when used without shoes outdoors.

They tend to react badly to rough ground, or cause discomfort in case of large temperature fluctuations. High quality footwear should prevent us from experiencing such problems.

What if your shoes are uncomfortable though? Rather than providing you with protection, you may find that you need protecting from them!

One way to avoid such problems is to wear in your shoes when they are new, rather than taking a risk.

Essentially, the practice of wearing in footwear involves wearing a new pair of shoes around the house. The advantage of this is that you can wear your new shoes in conditions that are less harsh than those that are found outside.

You might expect, for example, that the ground will be softer under your feet, since carpets offer a much less rough walking experience.

Equally, you'll be walking far shorter distances than those that you might typically cover when you are away from the home. By trying your new footwear indoors, you can allow your feet to adjust to the sensation of wearing a new pair of shoes.

At the same time, you can allow the shoes to adjust to the shape of your feet.

Once you come to wear them out for the first time, you should find them pretty comfortable.

Some would also suggest that you aim to buy high quality, leather shoes. This can also help the situation, with leading UK retailers including the likes of Clifford James and Samuel Windsor.

Enjoy your shoes and be comfortable!
