The HTC HD7 has recently been released and is one of a number of new smartphones boasting the new Microsoft Windows Phone 7 operating system. This offers an easy to use user interface, with its “tile” layout. Its powerful software is comfortably handled by the widely used 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

To navigate the user interface, the HTC HD7 has a large 4.3 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen. This can display up to 16 million colours within its pixel layout of 480x 800, resulting in great quality still images and video display. It also provides an ideal platform for gaming or surfing the web. An accelerometer sensor is built in, giving users the option to view the on screen content in either portrait or landscape form. On the back of the handset, there is a kickstand, which allows users to stand the phone on its side to view full screen videos or slideshows.

In order to store data such as music tracks, video clips or documents, a generous 8 GB of internal storage is provided as standard. This keeps things simple by essentially eliminating the need for expandable storage such as a micro SD card slot.

To browse the internet, 3G coverage relies on and HSDPA connection which provides speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. although adequate, a faster and more reliable connection can be achieved by utilising Wi-Fi connectivity whenever users have access to local wireless networks. This could be in commercial, domestic or public locations, the latter owing to the increasing number of Wi-Fi hotspots appearing all over the country. In order to keep the HTC HD7 connected to cellular networks, both GPRS and EDGE are provided in class 32 versions. Bluetooth and micro USB connections allow users to connect the handset to compatible devices such as handsfree headsets and computers, whereby a number of tasks can be carried out.

An easy to use yet powerful 5 megapixel digital camera is located on the back of the handset. This operates at 2592x 1944, resulting in superb quality still images, enhanced further by the quality of the screen when viewing them. As an alternative option to still images, the camera also boasts the ability to shoot HD video footage in 720p quality.

The Microsoft Windows Phone 7 OS means the HTC HD7 is a welcome alternative in a smartphone market which seems to be dominated by a small number of handset models and operating systems.
For anyone looking for a smartphone which stands out from the crowd for all the right reasons, the HTC HD7 is definitely worth a closer look.
