The difficulty of the Beatles final tour commenced on July twenty-nine, 1966, when the teen magazine titled Datebook printed a quotation of a previous John interview where John stated that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. The writer's first interview published in the London Evening Standard did not cause any problems after it hit the stands. However it blew up in the US 4 months later.
The bad publicity caused great concern in the start of the tour. A secret telephone caller in August '66 threatened that one or more of the Beatles would be shot during one of their two performances in in Texas. When a firecracker later went off in the evening performance, The Beatles straight away looked at the rest of the band to see which of them had been shot.
But the following night the Beatles were equally on edge when they were on the point of going onto the uncovered stage on Cincinnati's Crosley Field in a teeming rainstorm. While over thirty thousand spectators sat within Corsley Field waiting to see the group, the band were fearful of getting shocked if they were to plug into their amps. McCartney threw up behind the scenes. Luckily, just before the show was set to start the gig was called off and postponed for the day after.
The following day, The Beatles gave their final concert at Candlestick Park on Aug 29th, 1966. The band was at second base far away from the 25,000 fans. It was up 5 feet above the ballfield inside a six-foot metal fence, and surrounded by 2 hundred policemen. Hits played at the concert were 'Rock And Roll Music', 'She's A Woman', 'If I needed Someone', 'Day Tripper', 'Baby's In Black', 'I Feel Fine', 'Yesterday', 'I Wanna Be Your Man', 'Nowhere Man', 'Paperback Writer', and 'Long Tall Sally'.
Then the four lads left the ballpark in an fortified auto. All four Beatles knew this was the final show. John Lennon had brought a camera onstage and snapped pictures of himself and the other Beatles in between numbers. McCartney had requested PR officer Tony Barrow to tape record the final performance on a small tape recorder.
Unfortunatly, the only known filming of the bands last concert was caught by a fifteen year old kid and featured in a documentary named The Unseen Beatles.
As The bands jet left California, George said, 'Well, that is it, I am not a Beatle any more.'
