Artichoke plants can be used to decorate your garden because of its beauty. Other than its beautiful silvery looking green color, it is also a tasty vegetable plant. If you have tasted the delicious buds of an artichoke plan, you should be thinking of planting it in your own backyard. There are various ways that you can plant artichokes. You can either plant them from seeds, use shoots that you have taken from an existing plant, or you can utilize dormant roots. Whichever method you choose, you should be able to successfully grow your artichoke.

There are a couple of things that you need to consider in case you want to use seeds to plant artichokes. It is advisable that you seed it into a container that is around four-inch in height. At the early stages of the seedling’s growth, it requires sunlight. However, you shouldn’t expose it to the cold winter or the hot summer. It would be best if you place it indoors and under fluorescent lights. It is very important that you keep the soil fertilized. Artichoke plants require nutrients as they grow.

One more thing that you need to know is that this kind of plant does not thrive well in pots and indoors. So you should try to get them into your garden as soon as you can. There are signs that you can observe to know if you can transfer them outdoors already. After around eight to ten weeks, the seedlings will usually have grown to about eight inches. The plant should also have some mature leaves.

Another way of planting artichokes is by using rooted shoots. If you have a neighbor or a friend who has an artichoke plant, you can ask him to share it with you. After you have removed the rooted shoot from an existing artichoke plant, it’s now time to plant it. It is recommended that you plant it on early spring to give your plant the best chance of survival.

Artichoke plants can live for more than two years. This will depend largely on the weather in your area. It can become a perennial plant if you live in an area with a mild winter and cool summer.
