When a person's body is at rest, the person should be as comfortable as possible. There are some advantages to owning and sleeping in water beds, especially for those individuals that have injuries that will not allow proper rest. Proper rest is important to allow a person to function while engaging in daily activities. There are several kinds of beds to decide on when shopping.

Water beds supply an adjustable amount of heat to the water, therefore when a person sleeps on their back, a water bed can really feel good. The temperature of most water beds can be adjusted by a thermometer type dial located on one or both sides of the bed. The number of dials will depend on the size of the water bed.

The heat is generated by a flat heating element which is placed between the wooden foundation and the water holding mattress. In most cases, these elements can get too hot, causing the person attempting to acquire rest, to be uncomfortably hot, which decreases the amount of rest needed. The most common retaliation which is not wise is for the person to completely turn off the heating element to resume a comfortable night's sleep.

When the heating element of water beds is turned off, the water inside the mattress may remain at room temperature. However, at room temperature when a person is sleeping in water beds that have no working heating element can lower the body temperature to the point of organ shut down and can result in a fatality.

Most water beds are very comfortable because the water folds around the person that lays down. This makes a person feel like the warm water is wrapping around them, providing heat to those sore muscles and irritated injured spots. The main thing to remember while sleeping in water beds on a nightly basis, it to not sleep on the stomach or on the side. When a person sleeps on their stomach in a water bed with a lighter partner, the natural curve of the spine is stretched the opposite way. Waking up from an eight hour sleeping session can be very painful.

Another thing about water beds, is if a partner is heavier than the other person, the lighter of the two will feel as if they are sleeping on a hard bubble of water all night.

When the lighter person rolls over to sustain more comfort, the floor may become an option to continue uninterrupted sleep. Otherwise, the lighter person will end up sleeping on the partner, either way water beds can be extremely hard to gain a good night's sleep.

To sum it all up about the advantages of sleeping in water beds, there are many of them. When the proper procedures are performed and the differences are weighed out, water beds can be quite therapeutic as a result of the heat, especially in the winter season. However, there are many things to consider when thinking of purchasing a water bed, when thinking of types of beds to purchase.
