Being a partner in a quality relationship decreases the chance of you being depressed or lonely, but finding a relationship that is really high in quality can be difficult. Many people these days go online to find a suitable matchmaking service, but recent studies suggest a much better option is an offline dating service.

A study reported in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology tried to find out why online dating services were finding their users often became unhappy quickly. They found that many users were discouraged because they had unrealistic expectations, and this was especially true of women. According to one of the study's authors, Michael Norton of the Harvard Business School, women using an online dating agency were typically looking for a soul mate, while men were more likely to be seeking a casual relationship.

Another problem with an online matchmaking agency identified by the study was that many profiles were vague and included few pictures, which fuelled the imaginations of seekers and inflated their expectations. People looking for love tended to read into the profiles what they wanted to find, and could become blind to what was really there. When faced with the reality of the person on a date, their inflated hopes were quickly dashed.

Why an Offline Dating Service is Better

An Offline dating service such as Vital Partners is powered by real people, not an algorithm, which means every client is met and interviewed by a real person either by telephone or face to face, and helped to create a profile that is attractive but honest and which does not lead potential dates to have unrealistic expectations. Profiles created for an online site are generally not vetted by anyone. Study found online profiles often contained white lies that added to the unrealistic expectations. Around half the men, for example, were found to lie about their height and well over half of all users lie about their weight. An offline dating service reduces the chance of the profile containing incorrect details.

It may seem at first glance that you would be more likely to find true love in an online dating site with millions of profiles to choose from, but another study, reported in Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, found that people meeting via an offline dating service were more likely to stay together than those who met online. Relationships that started offline featured more commitment, exclusivity, and trust and were more likely to lead to a life-long partnership.
