Blackberry has recently announced the release of a new handset, the Blackberry 9105 Pearl 3G. Offering perfect features for the business user, this stylish handset boasts a document editor, digital camera and Internet access via 3G and Wi-Fi.

In order to stay connected to the Internet and cellular networks, a number of methods are utilised. As the name suggests, a 3G Internet connection is provided via HSDPA at speeds of up to 3.6 mega bytes per second (along with HSUPA). In areas where a wireless Internet router is located, Wi-Fi utilises the signal to provide a faster connection similar to standard broadband speeds. Both GPRS and EDGE are provided in class 10 versions connecting the handset to cellular networks on the move. The TFT screen can display up to 256K colours within a pixel layout of 360x 400, offering excellent levels of display quality. In order to navigate the Blackberry OS user interface a touch sensitive optical trackpad is provided, which is conveniently thumb operated.

256 MB of internal memory allows ample storage for data such as media files. A micro SD slot is also included for the same purpose, and boasts a pre-installed 2 GB memory card. Should further storage be required, however, this can be replaced with a memory card of up to 32 GB. This is capable of storing an entire digital music collection or a good number of video files or photos etc.

The Blackberry 9105 Pearl 3G boasts an digital camera of 3.15 megapixels, which offers the ability to take good quality still images thanks to a pixel resolution of 2048x 1536. The task of taking quality images is simplified thanks to the inclusion of such image enhancing features as Autofocus and LED flash. As an alternative method of image capture, this camera can also shoot video.

As one may expect from the manufacturer, this handset boasts a good level of everyday functionality thanks to the inclusion of a number of applications and features. The versatile internal media player supports a vast array of both music and video file formats. A number of pre-installed games (along with access to a library of downloadable games) is also included to keep users entertained. Blackberry maps functions thanks to GPS with A-GPS support. A document editor is sure to impress business users (compatible with word, excel, PowerPoint and PDF files) so they can remain productive when out of the office.
