If you are concerned and think that you have a social phobia disorder then what you more than likely mean is that you are actually afraid of any sort of social situation. You are uneasy being around other people within a social setting where you are expected to make conversation or small talk.

I understand just how you feel and have many a time gone to great lengths to steer clear of such occasions.

But in doing this we are missing lots of the good things in life. The moment I began practicing these 4 tiny simple steps my self confidence improved significantly. Now I am quite at ease meeting others, even total strangers and really enjoy the experience.

Here are the 4 tiny steps that I have found that work wonders.

  • Whenever you are out shopping, walking or anywhere really, simply just look up occasionally and smile at people. Rather than looking down at the ground lift up your eyes and look around you instead. Each time a passerby looks towards you simply smile at them and then look away. That is all! There is nothing more to it.

  • The next step to take is to practice smiling and perhaps greeting them by saying hallo or even hi. Take a moment to see just how that makes you feel. It feels pretty good doesn't it! Your self confidence is starting to grow.

  • Then you might like to try out a more formal greeting like good afternoon or good day. Notice that you are still not engaging in a conversation with them.

  • If however somebody stops and wants to have a chat with you then just relax and listen to what they have to say. Smile again say thank you or perhaps, see you later and off you go again.

Gradually you will find that you become a lot more relaxed about meeting people and what you once thought was a social phobia disorder changes into more of an happy feeling at the possibility of meeting new people.
