Lighting is, of course, an important factor in home decorating, and different types of chandeliers often play a major role in décor and design. They can fill any place with warmth, while at the same time highlighting certain areas of the room but keeping other areas out of the spotlight. These advantages make them a commonly used tool in indoor decor for many types of venues, such as studios, restaurants and, yes, especially homes!
Different types of chandeliers can contribute greatly in this decorating process, bathing parts of the room with warm light. By using different types and different lamp shades, they can lend themselves to western, traditional, contemporary, or even country decor.
Originally chandeliers were meant to hold candles, by reason of maintaining the light source at a high level for better exposure. When light bulbs were invented people turned to more sophisticated form of electric lights, but chandeliers were still used because of their beauty and decorative advantages.
Most people first think of the famous type called the "crystal," and for good reason. They are not only the height of elegance, but make for lovely focal points in dining rooms, entryways, or living rooms.
Two of the other most common types are the "wagon wheel" and "votive."
Wagon wheel types bring a more country feeling to the room. Because the wagon wheel can be made larger for large areas needing lighting, or smaller to meet the needs of smaller spaces, this type can easily produce the necessary expanded light coverage.
The wagon wheel comes in two versions: one with the lights pointing up, the other with lights pointing downward. Both feature that wonderful country look, and may be either authentic or reproductions.
Votive types,on the other hand, can lend a more formal feeling to a space. They can easily become center focus for dining and parties. Though completely different in style, both of these types of can fill the room with enough light. They also present a great design element to suit the needs of most décor types. Different chandelier lamp shades are another example of beauty, elegance and uniqueness. They can come in a wide variety of colors and shapes, and work great with any kind of space.
Most votive types are manufactured from steel or other metal and painted in a neutral color. They may hold up to twelve candle holders attached to the main form.
Chandelier types have evolved since their formative days, but they still provide the same warm elegant effect: they provide a focal point to a room. Whether you're using a wagon wheel, a votive, or various different chandelier lamp shades, it is always best to chose a style that will compliment the room and not overpower its beautiful design, keeping in mind both style and comfort.
