There are only three phones in the current lineup of Samsung's Genio series; the Genio Touch, the Genio Pro and the Genio QWERTY. Outside of the UK, the series is called Corby and it is being constantly expanded with new additions. New to the Corby line are the Pop, Lindy, Slide and Fold versions; and it looks like Samsung will be bringing them into the UK pretty soon. So far, there are reports that the Slide and Fold are due for a UK release, but what has been confirmed is that the Pop will definitely be launching sometime around April this year under the name of Samsung C3510 Genoa.
This new Genio phone's best feature is its budget price and great features. Despite being a budget touch screen phone, the Genoa still comes with social networking applications, customizable widgets, an easy to use touch screen interface and plenty more.
The Experience Begins Here
Delivering fun in a phone is not easy, but Samsung certainly makes it look simple. The Genoa's main screen is a large three panel display of which only one panel can be seen at a time -or simply put, three variable home screens. Sliding the screen left and right will reveal the rest of the home screen and its many links and shortcuts to applications and features. Of course, is those hot links are not enough, you also have fully customizable widgets that can contain any feed or content you choose. Even phone applications can be put inside the widgets too.
The overall layout of the phone's menu is easy to use. Accessing features and functions can be as quick as a simple slide and tap of a finger on the screen. Thanks to the phone's responsive visuals, getting around the interface is both fun and intuitive. If the phone's colors are not to your liking, you can easily adjust the settings of various visual elements or even the overall feel of the interface by selecting a new theme. The phone will come with several themes to choose from.
Messengers and Quick links
Chatting on this phone is made possible by the Palringo platform. The Palringo is a multi messenger that will enable you to chat using instant messaging software with your contacts list. The application can synch with various IM programs such as AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk and ICQ so that you can access you different contact lists at the same time. The onscreen keyboard will take a little bit of practice to use.
Going online is also easy thanks to the help of the quick links widget. This widget will store your favorite links so that accessing your favorite sites will only take one stroke of the finger instead of having to open the menu. Social networking sites such as Facebook and file upload sites like Picasa, Photobucket and Flickr are already preloaded.
Summing It Up
Compared to the average smart phone, the Samsung C3510 Genoa still has plenty of catching up to do. But when it comes to practicality and functionality, very few will match up to this phone. Look forward to its launch after March 2010.
