Read Matthew 22: 23 - 40
In the reading, it was stated that the Sadducees claimed that there is no resurrection. They tried to trap Jesus in his own words by asking Him who rightfully owns that woman who was seven times marries (on different occasions) to seven brothers. From the way they questioned Jesus, it was obvious that they think resurrection to be a continuation of one's life on earth. They thought that the woman will continue being a wife to her husband, that's why the Sadducees asked Jesus who rightfully owns her.
The soul is sometimes conceived to be a part of one's body. But this conception is wrong in the sense that the soul is a complete personification of our self. It's for eternity unlike our body which is considered temporary only.
Thus, Jesus answered the tricky question of the Sadducees by explaining to them that if one dies, he or she will become like the angels. No family ties exist; only equality, happiness and contentment living with God. Jesus also explained that God is not the God of the dead but of the living.
I strongly believe that a lot of people think that if one dies, he or she is completely destroyed and will not continue living or will continue living similar to his or her life on earth. God corrected that notion by allowing our soul to survive, not to continue doing its accustomed ways on earth, but to love in harmony with God's ways.
Let us all remember the two most important commandments as we go on living. First, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind". And, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself". If you are practicing these commandments every day, then it follows that you are observing too the Ten Commandments. I do believe that the two most important commandments are enough to help us live according to God's ways.
Featured Prayer:
Holy Spirit thou who make see everything and show me the way to reach my ideal. Thou who give me the divine gift to forgive and forget the wrong that is done to me. I, in this short dialogue, want to thank everything and confirm once more that I never want to be separated from You, no matter how great the material desire may be. I want to be with You and my loved ones in Yours perpetual glory, Amen.
