Reasons Why Oil Filled Radiators Are An Absolute Must For Winter

Everyone dreads the forthcoming winter season. As we dig out our winter gloves, and bring out the holiday decorations many of us are debating replacing our old heaters with something more efficient. This debate is often settled by oil filled radiators. These are a safer, cleaner, cheaper alternative heating source to our old electric heaters.

Oil filled radiators heat through means of convection. What this means is that as the air flows over aluminum fins it is heated, and then goes on its way. The fins are heated by oil that is circulated through the radiator. When it gets cooled off enough the heating unit engages and keeps the oil warm.

This ensures the heater can run as long as you need it to, provided there is electricity. These heating units are sold in most home improvement stores, at online shops, and are readily available in most areas. They are easy to operate, low maintenance, and are extremely light. Although their design does not lend them well to being portable over the road heaters, they are designed for easy moving.

This comes in handy when the family decides to move into one room and you need to keep them warm. Oil filled radiators heat up faster than conventional electric heaters, and some models have advanced thermostatic controls. When the room temperature gets to a certain point the heater stops pumping the oil through its system. When the temperature drops, the heater resumes pumping, and reengages the heating unit.

While this heating method is a safe method you still need to take the general precautions. Make sure there is adequate space around the heater to allow for good ventilation. Never put it near rugs, furniture made of flammable material, or anything else that might burn quickly. Of course these are just common sense precautions that everyone knows to take.

Regardless of what you use to heat your home you can never be to careful. Since the system is a closed system the oil will rarely dry up requiring little replacement. As long as you have good airflow in your room the heater will keep it warm. These are safe to be left on all night even in a bed room, or living room.

Safety is still a priority even with the manufacturers of oil filled radiators. Tip over switches, overheating cutoffs, and overload protection are standard on most models. These radiators are made of the highest quality materials and will serve you and your family for many years to come. Another perk for these types of heaters is that they are completely silent. Most traditional electric heaters use fans and are quite noisy, especially in their later years.

Although oil filled radiators are good for homes and offices they are not recommended for warehouses and other large buildings. For these areas you will want to use a traditional space, or kerosene heater. Radiator heaters simply cannot heat a large area efficiently. They are designed for more of a precision heating method, rather than an area blanketed method.
