Private Practice episode guide

Private practice is a medical drama set in the environs of a private clinic which comprises of a group of doctors. The show revolves around the lives of these doctors, their personal trials and tribulations interspersed with cases of medical relevance and patients who come to the clinic. The show is spin off of the ABC network popular drama series Grey’s Anatomy. The chief character from Grey’s Anatomy who stars in Private Practice is Dr. Addison Montgomery, played by actor Kate Walsh, who is a neonatologist.

The other main characters include Dr. Peter Wilder, played by Tim Daly, who specializes in Internal Medicine, Dr. Naomi Bennett (essayed by Audra McDonald) who is a gynecologist, Dr. Cooper Freedman (Paul Edelstein) who specializes in pediatrics, Dr. Sam Bennett played by Taye Diggs who is a surgeon of internal medicine and Dr. Violet Turner who is a psychiatrist. There is also a character Dell Parker who plays the part of a Nurse. Apart from these characters there are several recurring characters that are seen over the span of the three seasons.

The show was first aired in 2007 and quickly gained popularity amongst the viewers. The complicated lives of the doctors and their intertwined romances soon found favor with the fans. The show has successfully run for 3 seasons and will continue with the fourth season which premieres in September 2010. The episode guide for the first three seasons will be detailed in this article.

Season one began with the arrival of Addison at the plush environment of the Oceanside Wellness group which is a private clinic set in Los Angeles. Accustomed to the hustle bustle of the setup at Seattle Grace Hospital, Addison is at first astonished at the difference in work atmosphere. The season particularly deals with her relationships with her co workers, her best friend Naomi Bennett who is a fertility specialist, Dr. Cooper with whom she has a short term romance. There are various episodes unraveling each of the characters to the audience.

Season two premiered in the 2008-2009 period renewing the show’s episodes. The season begins with the financial situation of the Oceanside Wellness Group in jeopardy. Addison is made aware of the impending situation which causes her to take over the reins at the Practice making her the new boss. There is also the presence of competition in the form of a rival practice close by, The Pacific Wellcare.

The season also sees the turmoil in the relationships of Sam and Naomi Bennett who are now estranged and are not able to even maintain a friendship. Addison tries her luck at a few relationships but none of them go anywhere. Her brother Archer Montgomery makes a few appearances and has a romantic relationship with Naomi. There is also trouble brewing amongst the practice with one of the doctors indulging in a relationship with someone from Pacific WellCare. Amongst the cases shown in the season are a few that raise some concerns such as one about the budding sexual activity of a 12 year old child, a young couple who find out that they are in fact siblings and another where fertility treatments go awry when two embryos get switched between mothers to be.

The third season aired in April 2009. This season witnesses one of the popular characters from grey’s Anatomy making an appearance. Dr. Miranda Bailey played by Chandra Wilson arrives at Los Angeles to operate upon a patient. A main character from this show, Dell Parker, is in an accident which ultimately proves fatal for him. There are wedding bells for a few characters that have had a long standing relationship through the seasons- Violet and Pete. Another connection to Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice is made in the form of Dr. Amelia Shepherd who is Dr. Derek Shepherd’s sister who operates on Dell prior to his death.

The fourth season will take off from where the previous one ended and promises to bring with it some more high intensity drama and it remains to be seen if it will hold the audiences interest.
