Outback - Damn dog found!
By: Stephinno | Posted: 15th July 2009
Now that Innotek has introduced the GPS20 gundog tracking device, "Where's that damn dog?' needn't be a standard phrase in any sporting shooter's conversational repertoire. Designed in Spain and again using a collar, the device utilises both radio waves and GPS to locate missing dogs.
First the collar is initialised to the console and the name of the dog entered into the memory. (Up to 100 dogs - or rather, collars - can be memorised.) The dog(s) can be tracked on the handheld console - either by finding the direction where the radio signal is strongest or by following the directional arrow in GPS mode, when the distance the dog is away is also displayed. It's claimed that the unit can detect a signal in Radio Tracking Mode up to 20km away, and up to 7km in GPS Mode, which can also be used to track down a GPS point where you left your car or stashed some game. By the way, the collar is completely waterproof (as you would expect).
At $1990, the GPS20 isn't cheap, but comes with a two year warranty and really works well, even on cloudy days. It's available through retailers of Innotek products or direct by mail order from Innotek (http://www.innotek.com.au).
Right, got the dog, now where's that damn duck?
