Are You Having Problems with Paypal?
By: Hotbizcafe | Posted: 05th June 2009
Paypal without a doubt is the most powerful online banking hegemony worldwide. I have not come across any phenomenon like Paypal in recent history. Paypal, however, has failed several internet users. For example, Paypal does not accept several African countries and restricted most of these African countries to just making payments i.e they cannot accept payments or withdraw. So obviously, Africans and non Africans living in Africa can neither open nor operate a Paypal account.
Paypal seems to be viewing Africa unfairly. It is generally viewed by most investors that Africa is not among the emerging markets and it is not a potential market for internet opportunities. Likewise, the growth and investment in Africa is lagging the rest of the world. The infrastructure is decaying and technological advancements do not gain ground. Worse is that they show no signs of improving.
The reasons stated above should not be enough to neglect a continent as big as Africa when it comes to money transfer and online money payment services. Most Nigerians remember that it was only in the last few years that Western Union and the likes came to Nigeria. But Paypal steadfastly continues to neglect the African market.
The fact that Paypal does not appear to be in a hurry to open their doors to Africa, casts a shadow of doubt. However, it is remarkable to note the strides taken in terms of internet infrastructure by some African countries notably Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana to mention a few. This achievements seem to go unniticed by Paypal and others eg Moneybookers etc. A whole lot of online and offline businesses would like to be able to make and receive payments online but are being denied this priviledge by Paypal and her likes.
It seems that this problem is here to stay for a very long time. What's more, there does not seem to be any African alternative to the problem. Since there is no alternative, we seem stuck with finding ways of obtaining a verified Paypal account.
