Eating What Comes Naturally

Sadly, most of us regularly eat a diet that consists of foods that are not natural for our bodies. Nature had something different in mind from what we actually consume.

We're influenced, of course, on a daily basis by strongly created ad campaigns that convince us to buy various foods for which the human body was not designed. The foods that are compatible naturally with our bodies are those that keep a healthy balance of nutrients to maintain weight and health in general.

We've all read and heard what a problem obesity is becoming, not only in this country, but in others worldwide, many of which never had the problem of an overweight population before.

The simple reason that all this enormous weight gain is taking place is that people are eating more and more of the wrong foods. And there is massive confusion everywhere about just what the right things are to eat.

In the past, obesity was a rarity. One of the major reasons for this was a much more limited supply of food types. Today, with a veritable symphony of food choices, many people wind up playing the wrong instrument, gobbling up fast foods and other items that are high in fat and calories and low on the beneficial nutrient scale.

The truth is, eating foods low in nutrient value will actually induce us to eat more, since the body is not getting what it needs. This triggers more hunger and, therefore, more eating.

We all have to learn to select our foods carefully, trying to stay as close as possible to the foods we were meant to eat. This means increasing the amounts of fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts and fish we consume. At the same time, it means cutting down on meats, junk food snacks, high sodium foods and the like.

Our bodies were designed to thrive on those natural foods. A diet high in the good stuff will tend to keep those tempting hunger pangs away, lowering the chances that we'll add pounds and making attempts at weight loss more successful.

This, of course, is not to say that we can't indulge ourselves occasionally. But those instances should very definitely be the exception rather than the rule. One of my favorite indulgences is a good, juicy steak with the obligatory baked potato and butter. In moderation, that's fine. But three times a week? No.

If you're trying to lose weight, consider strongly focusing your diet on the good, natural foods listed above. Even if you're not trying to shed pounds, a diet concentrated primarily on those natural foods will treat your body better and help to maintain your good health.
