Painting Interior Part – 2

Paints are of various types. Enamel meant oil-based paints years ago. Today it is known as durable latex paint. On new wood or masonry surfaces sealers are used, they help in mainly sealing the surface of the material by forming a base coat which in turn helps in keeping the top coat being absorbed unevenly. Then to make the substrate more uniform we have primers which also create a tight bond between the surface where we are going to paint and the topcoat. ON concrete walls and floors we have masonry or cementious paints. The paint which is applied on ceiling is made such as it doesn't drip. For cabinets and shelves we use durable and washable paint such as melamine paint. We have wide variety of paints to choose from manufactured by various brand companies. And they produce paints of higher as well as lower quality to select from. As you go towards higher quality the price increases. We have to take few points into consideration while buying paints like paint with latex base should not be stored for longer time and should be bought only when required. Also we need to check the manufacturer date and try to buy the latest one. Getting ready for painting is a tedious task. Like removing he existing furniture, accessories, draperies, cleaning up the walls, removing wall paper if any, filling up the holes resulted from nails drilling. Filling up the cracks if any and making the surface even. While painting we have to make sure we do not paint very thin layers of paint as this will decrease in their wear resistance and washability , there should be proper ventilation while painting so all windows, ventilation should be open. After painting keep the windows open for two to three days as paint continues to off-gas. If you have plenty of air flow the toxic vapors will disperse faster, maintaining indoor air quality. If the solvent based paint falls on your skin or sticks to your skin then use vegetable oil to remove the same. The paint will adhere properly to the wall if the surface was properly primed, and sand paper was used to clean the surface. Buy low- or no-VOC paint, select recycled and natural paints which is not oil based that is water based paints. Buy the correct amount of paint to avoid later problems in uniformness in color. After painting if the paint remains then we have to dispose the unused paint properly, we can exchange or donate the leftover paint. Unused paint has to be properly disposed as it will reduce the damage to the ground and surface water. It is also very harmful for human health if we dispose the paint in sewers, drains, sinks, or thrown away in liquid form in the trash which then ends up in landfills.
