Hyaluronic Acid – love your skin inside and outside
By: Merryn Hargreaves | Posted: 04th June 2006
Treat your skin to a good diet on the inside and a good topical moisturiser on the outside and you will feel young for life.
My inside treatment is described in my article titled Breakfast – How to make your day start with vitality This breakfast cereal has all the essential skin foods you need. Make up a big batch and have it everyday. Not only will your skin start to glow but the rest of your body will feel fit and energised.
My outside treatment is Hyaluronic Acid Serum (HA) for moisturising my skin. It is sourced from a bio-chemical company in Japan. It absorbs immediately and is easy to apply with no greasiness whatsoever. It has the ability to help skin as a nutrient that not only hydrates, but also stimulates the production of new skin cells. HA has the ability to hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water. Because it binds with water it is effective in plumping up the skin therefore helping to diminish the appearance of fine line and wrinkles. When applied to the skin it acts as the skin's natural hydrator. It attracts and binds moisture protecting skin from dehydration. With continued use the skin has more resilience, smoothness, elasticity and tone.
HA first came to my attention from an article by Susan Clark, the health journalist in the Sunday Times who uses it herself as an under eye treatment for puffy eyes. More recently there have been articles in health magazines, particularly the extract from Dr Howard Murad's book Losing Lumps, Bumps, Dimples and Stretch Marks where he pays particular attention to hyaluronic acid as a topical substance that can directly hydrate and lubricate the surface skin, helping to prevent cellulite.
Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in our skin but as we age, the body produces less. By the time we are 50 we lose up to 50% and our skin becomes dry and wrinkly. HA has been identified as one of the body's most dynamic replacement lubricators.
You need to choose a serum that has a concentration of at least 60% HA for the best effect .
