A trip to Deniyaya

It was a bit of a gloomy Saturday morning when I woke up around 5:30 in the morning to get ready for a long-awaited trip with my friends. As I got in and started the engine of the car which I rented the previous evening especially for this trip, my mind took on a ride on recalling how this whole trip got planned. Me and my office mates, were planning on going on a trip for the longest time and every other time it got canceled for some random reason. From health issues, bad climate, not having holidays to not having a proper vehicle were some of our famous excuses.
And I was finally able fix the last excuse which was not having a proper vehicle by doing my own homework to find out that in Sri Lanka, rent a car service providers like Kings Rent a Car Colombo has the complete solution for renting a vehicle.
After much discussion and planning, the gang agreed on going to Deniyaya which was 167.6 Km away from Colombo. And luckily we were able to find a cottage which was on rent basis and within our budget which made our trip simply memorable. A few hundred meters from our cottage, was a shallow river from which we bathed to our heats’ content and as soon as we returned to the cottage, we were complimented with tea and evening snacks by the resident caretaker of the cottage. Since we had our lunch on the way, we arrived at the cottage having our minds fixed to taste an authentic village meal for dinner. We bought a few Kilos of Chicken and Beef on our way and our caretaker agreed to prepare them for diner with his own cooking skills.

As the darkness settled, we gathered around a small table in the garden to grab a few drinks. With endless chatter and jokes accompanied by sing along sessions, it was one of those “moments” which one would cherish for lifetime. And at around 8:30 in the night, we were informed by the caretaker of the cottage that our dinner is ready and served to the table. So without a second thought we laid our glasses down and rushed in to the dining room to find a table full of “Pol rotti” accompanied by spicy beef curry! I simply can’t help being bias, but it was the best meal I’ve had in my entire life!

The following morning was simply beautiful since our cottage was located facing a paddy field with a stream flowing down a few meters away. A thin layer of mist was settling off from the paddy field up in to mountain and it was a fascinating sight to witness! But unfortunately all of us had responsibilities to attend to back in Colombo. Therefore with our memories complied at heart, I started the engine to head back home…
