How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are extremely common and affect a vast majority of women during their pregnancy. They appear as raised red, pink, purple or dark brown lines or streaks in the skin. Stretch marks generally appear on a woman's belly during pregnancy from the end of the second trimester onwards. The abdomen expands quickly to accommodate the baby growing inside and as a result the skin is stretched on parts of the body where fat is stored.

Causes of Stretch Marks: - Stretch marks are caused by rapid stretching and tearing of the skin, usually as a result of rapid growth. Common reasons include:
* Puberty
* Pregnancy
* Rapid weight gain or obesity
* Fast muscle growth due to exercise

Symptoms of Stretch Marks: - They might show up as indented lines, or they can appear as bright streaks that fade to light pink, white, silver or gray. These colorful marks most commonly end up on several areas, including the stomach, thighs, hips, breasts, upper arms, lower back or shoulders.

While stretch marks can appear anywhere on the body, they usually appear in locations where the body stores more fat. Common places therefore include the stomach area, breasts, arms and armpits, thighs, hips, and buttocks. In most cases, stretch marks do not pose any health risk and are mainly an annoyance.

Natural Remedies: - More and more women are choosing to use natural and holistic treatments during their pregnancy because they are gentle on the body and support healthy skin from the inside out. There are also many natural ingredients to promote healing of the skin, if such as Rosehip oil that has the ability to rebuild damaged skin tissue and can reduce the appearance of current stretch marks.

*One of the simplest, yet effective home remedies for stretch marks would be to apply lavender oil on the marks, three times a day.
*Creams with vitamin E can be used to cure the stretch marks naturally.
*Another home remedy would be to apply Aloe Vera gel on the marks. They would initially, lighten and finally, remove the marks from the body.
*It helps to have a balanced diet in order to get rid of the stretch marks. A balanced diet provides necessary nourishment to the body and most definitely to the skin making it healthier.
*Prepare a mixture by adding seven drops of lavender oil and a few drops of chamomile oil to an ounce of carrier oil (avocado, sweet almond or jojoba oil). Use it to massage the affected area.
*Includes lots of green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, liver and dairy products in your diet.
*Consume seeds and nuts that contain zinc. They will prove effective in removing stretch marks.
*Aroma oil is beneficial in treating stretch marks problem. Apply some of this oil on the stretch marks and massage well.
*Rub the affected area with apricot scrub. This is likely to remove the stretch marks gradually.

People with stretch marks may feel very self-conscious regarding their ‘scars'. A variety of moisturizers, creams and oils containing natural ingredients are available to reduce and prevent the appearance of stretch marks.
