
Can You Think Yourself Thin and Muscular?

Can you think yourself thin? If you believe you are a lean athlete or figure model from this moment on, and you hold that thought and belief for three months, will it make a difference in your weight, fitness level, and end objective? It will!
In her book The Secret, famous author Rhonda Byrne suggests that using the Law of Attraction, if you think thin thoughts, you will be thin. Conversely, if you think fat thoughts, you will be fat. My research and years of fitness training as well as corporate training, suggest that such a concept may not be as far out as you may be thinking!
Consider this - the concept "as a man thinks in his heart, so is he" was recorded some four thousand years ago in the book of Proverbs (Proverbs 23:7.) Stephen R. Covey, also a renowned author, emphasizes again and again in his books and training seminars man is able to think thoughts about his thoughts, that he chooses his own destiny.
In some of my own training seminars, I have taught audiences to find an anchor point - a place of happiness and productivity - prior to performing at work, in a presentation, or a fitness endeavor. Such an anchor point helps the brain chemistry - and indeed the body chemistry - to perform optimally.
Behavior then follows its own traffic cop. If that traffic cop directs you to fat and unhealthy, you reach for the Twinkie and the TV remote. If your traffic cop directs you to thin, fit, healthy, athlete, ripped, well - you take a pass on the Twinkie, grab your gym bag and head for your workout. You drive yourself to make time (different than taking time) to workout and to eat well every day.
If I feel fit and ripped, even if I have 10% too much bodyfat over my abs, I will watch my carbs, eat quality proteins, watch my portions and eat like a champion, which is smaller portions, 5 - 6 times a day. The results start to show within days. Conversely, if I think I'm unhealthy and unwell, I won't care. I'll skip workouts and fudge on intensity, and speaking of fudge, I'll eat whatever I want, whenever I want it. Once again, the results will start to show themselves within days
Would you like to prove me right or wrong? Try this experiment for 21 days: First, sit down and say out loud, I feel good. I enjoy working out. I am in great shape. Now, at first this may seem unbelievable to you, but if you envision in your mind's eye your final result and truly believe it is you, your actions will surely start to follow. Note to already fit participants - what's the next step? Your affirmation will be at a different level (I am ripped, I run a 5k in 18 minutes, I squat 400 lbs.,…or whatever your goals are.)
Next, write down the activities that, as a fit and optimally fit person, you will do. For example: I hike once a week. I go to the gym every day and follow the FitTransition or other regimen. I eat adequate protein, fruits, vegetables and avoid refined sugars and carbs. I set goals and push myself to new achievements.
Finally, actually schedule your fitness behavior. What time will you work out? What times will you snack on a little protein and fruits/vegetables? As the fit person you have become, you must now begin to act the part. The results will follow!
You know your experiment is successful when in a few weeks or even days, someone will begin to notice your changes. Hey you're looking good. Have you lost weight? Or the one I hear at the gym, "Dude, you're looking ripped!" How I love it when someone notices my hard work - and you will to!
