Preparing Your Holiday Packing List

There are few things as exciting as preparing to travel. There's a great sense of anticipation as you think about the days ahead of you. But this excitement can occasionally lead to problems. It's fairly common for people to forget to pack some holiday essentials.

This is certainly easily done. As we become carried away thinking about warm weather and beautiful beaches, we may start to forget about some of the more mundane issues. So how can we avoid problems? A great approach is to write a list of everything that you want to pack. You may do this already. But how effective is this approach for you at the present time?

Many people don't give enough thought to creating their holiday packing list. One of the most important things is to prepare any such list well in advance. This will give you time to properly think about the items you need and to go out and buy any replacements, where necessary.

A good approach can be to divide up your list into subheadings. Each category might represent a certain type of item that you are wishing to pack. You might, as an example, have one category that highlights all of your essential documents.

When I'm writing such a list, I would tend to include passports, airline tickets, accommodation information, travel insurance documents, medical forms, car hire booking forms and other such paperwork within this category. I can then tick off each item in turn as I pack them.

It's a really simple process but one that is incredibly effective. You can repeat it for just about anything that you are intending to pack. So you might have a separate category for clothing. There could be another category for entertainment items, such as MP3 players, books and cameras.

In effect, you're breaking your list down into a collection of smaller lists. This makes it more manageable, ensuring that you provide plenty of detail and reducing the risk of your forgetting something that's really important to you.
