Who invented the idea of putting cameras into cell phones? Was it a cell phone wholesaler who understood what customers hankered for? Was it a would-be amateur spy? Was it a fond dad who saw that oh-too-cute picture of a kid playing in the sand and didn't have a way quickly to take a snapshot? Whatever its beginnings, the cell phone camera has become enormously successful and it is becoming more and more like a regular digital camera. Some buyers regret the growing complexity, while others can't wait for the next step.

Cell phone cameras will not wholly replace regular digital cameras in the near future. When you can go to Walmart and get a camera for a low price, you aren't inclined to expend hundreds on a cell phone camera with fewer features. On the other hand, nothing can replace the spontaneity of the cell phone camera. Few are without a cell phone handy constantly, so those spontaneous unforgettable pictures can be preserved on film. Moreover, wholesale cell phones with cameras have become so easily available and so reasonably priced that they are nearly a necessity. The cell phone camera is evolving incredibly rapidly. Here are just a few of the improvements that have arrived.

Resolution. Usually, the higher the resolution, the better the picture quality. In 2009, cell phone cameras with an amazing 12 megapixels were introduced. The photographic quality produced by these cameras is far better than the poor-quality shots that early 1 megapixel cameras could produce - at least as long as the camera operator has some fundamental skill level!

Size. Consumers still want their wholesale cell phones to be slim and light. The main point, after all, is still to talk on the phone, although as these products evolve, more and more features, from WiFi to GPS, are being combined into one. Size still matters, however, so as manufacturers add features like autofocus and flash to the cell phone camera, they have to take steps towards keeping the device small.

Power. Battery life is crucial - every user wants a wholesale cell phone that functions as long as possible without recharging. The camera must be made for the lowest possible power usage whether being used or in stand-by mode. For example, camera phones with flashes most often use the low power LED light to preserve power.

Survival. Commiserate with the poor cell phone which has to survive being dropped, drowned,stomped on, driven over and thrown! Obviously a camera has to be incredibly rugged to survive under these circumstances. Wholesale cell phone manufacturers are meeting these challenges as well, even comingup with underwater camera phones.

The best stand-alone camera will always outshine the best cell phone camera in the hands of a capable photographic artist. But the cell phone camera will become more sophisticated and remain wildly popular.
