While more and more traditional stores and outlets are closing down, one trend can't be stopped: online shopping. It is not just pure convenience that lets customers shop from their own computer. The advent of social media such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other interactive experiences enable customers to get together and exchange their shopping experiences. Traditional old marketing that could get away with a few or more white lies are things of the past.

If the quality of a product is not matching what was promised, you bet that the online shopping community will know all about it. There is no hiding place. Big powerful corporations had to take product lines (and product lies!) down due to customer discussions and video posted on the Internet. The new breed of educated customers uses online shopping not just to compare prices and find the best deals themselves, but they also enjoy the new found freedom to express their needs and their right to get, what they pay for. While the old customers were limited to local stores in their areas, they now can go out and actually compare offers not just in their own country, but even globally.

And companies are learning fast about the new online shopping behavior as well. Some of them actually close down physical stores down the road and just use warehouses. The smart move is actually to be able to offer the same goods now but under different website names and specifically designed online shopping experiences for niche markets. It is much cheaper and easier to create a website for designer jeans or clothes for pregnant women than to open physical stores for such special niches. With the Internet it is much cheaper to sell all from one warehouse and create sub-niche online shopping stores. And the customers buy more as they are targeted the way they like it - according to their specific needs.

So it is actually not a bad thing if physical stores are closing, it is not always the effect of an economic crisis. Sometimes it is just the smarter thing to do - and it will leave more space for other businesses that will never be pure "online shopping experiences" like restaurants or dancing clubs that require people actually to go out physically to enjoy special times with special people. The time for that they will have for sure, as the new found Internet online shopping world sure is a time saver if used right.
