Here is some relaxing news for all you worried parents whose children spend most of their pastime in front of the computer, playing online games: playing internet games is not necessarily a harmful habit. On the contrary; recent surveys that have investigated the connection between online games and IQ development have found that many online games help to improve the player's memory, logic skill and overall to develop his IQ.
The influence of online games upon young players has been suffering from a bad reputation. Online games often describe violence and include explicit language, plus, they tend to be addictive. However, it turns out that playing online games have some positive affects as well. Games such as Tetris, Backgammon and memory games, can improve the intelligence of both the young and the adult player.
Tetris, for example, is a popular online game that requires an ability to analyze and plan ahead as fast as possible. If a player won't use these skills while playing Tetris, he is due to lose the game. Therefore, the analyzing abilities and logic skill of a Tetris player would improve faster than those of a child who spends most of his time watching TV, for example.

Another example for a computer game that develops IQ is online backgammon. When playing backgammon, the player is not only required to analyze his upcoming moves, he must also pay careful attention to his opponent moves and try to and build up his own strategy according to his opponent's predicted moves. Similar to chess, backgammon is a game of skill in which the players are constantly thinking, concluding and strategizing in order to path their way to victory.
Nevertheless, memory games are the most useful in IQ development comparing to any other online games. The link between good memory and learning skill has been already proved in several studies. It has shown that the better the memory is, the easier it is to store information and then to restore it back in time of need. Online memory games such as matching pairs of pictures are beneficial in developing one's memory and in preventing blocks of memory.
Therefore, even if you would prefer your kids to be preoccupied in other things instead of playing online games, you can at least lay back for a while. Not all computer games are bad habits; some online games like Tetris, online backgammon and memory games can increase your child's IQ. These online games are not only fun games to play; they also encourage thinking, predicting, analyzing and improve their intelligence and their learning skills.
