There are very important aspects to look at when getting an office chair, but I believe you should start from the bottom up. By bottom, I mean the base of the chair. The base of the chair is what comes between you staying in your chair and falling on the floor. It creates the stability you need in a good office chair in order to complete the task needed of you at the office.

If you are looking to replace the base of your office chair, there are two types of bases that manufacturers tend to offer. The first type of base is a manual base. Manual base seems to complete the bottom half of the chair but it does not seem to offer any height adjustment mechanism. In other words, manual type bases fits the office chair and keeps the chair stable without giving it the option of increasing or decreasing in height for people with various leg lengths. The second type of base is a gas base. This type of base does what a manual does not. It gives height adjustment for your legs. It does this by offering a lever underneath your seat. The lever controls what I would call the airmatic system. By pressing on the lever, air is released from the air chamber of the chair which causes the chair to increase or decrease in height hence the name gas base. It seems that more of today's office chairs have a gas base.

When it comes to bases, they come in various shapes and dimensions. One of the most popular styles of bases is the star-like swivel base. By star-like, I mean that the base has five legs which add stability to the chair. Adding a wheel to the end of each of those five legs gives the chair its swivel, allowing the occupant to freely move throughout the office without having to leave the chair. However, when it comes to bases, there are other choices. You can get a star-like base with any number of legs. The base also does not have to include wheels which would make the chair completely stationary. Another choice in a base is a circular one where it is bolted down to the ground to keep the chair in place. These are a few ideas to get you thinking of the various options you have when choosing a base for an office chair.

The base of your office chair is very important. If your chair's base loses a wheel or breaks a leg, do not get rid of it. There are several companies where you can buy a new base instead of paying the full price for a new chair. Keep in mind that several designs exist to replace the base of office chairs. Whether you chose a manual base or gas base, make sure that it is made of solid material so that your chair is supported in a proper manner.
