I am always astonished that people never learn. On the other hand, there's a bright side to it - our life will never become boring if we don't. Should we learn no one would commit any mistakes and … life would be simply … predictable and who would want that?

People never learn and are proud of it. On the other hand, I believe it was the great Napoleon Bonaparte (which actually means the good part in Italian - if I am not mistaken. If I am, just correct me) used to say that those that don't learn from the history are bound to commit the same mistakes over and over. And we do.

We fight wars and then we forget we even did… A half of a century and the former enemies become bossom friends. Just look at Germany that today is soooo friendly will all of the Europe. Sixty years and everything is forgiven. Let's kiss and make-up and uncle Hitler is but a memory of old better days when Germany was on the way to become number one. But no, the allies had other plans for the effective Germans. "Up like a sun and down like a pancake," as Swedes used to say. Big plans and what - nothing is left today of the great third Reich.
But we never learn. There is a little Hitler in most every leader in every, even the most insignificant country in the world. How about the Japs? Sixty years ago they almost managed to conquer America, maybe a little exaggeration, and now what. We refuse to buy anything else than the Japanese cars… We just love them. Everythinh is forgiven and forgotten. Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima/Nagasaki. It's all gone with the wind.

And now the Georgians are marching, today Ossetia, tomorrow the world? Just joking. Unfortunately the Russians don't understand Georgian jokes and all of a sudden a nice and risk free military adventure turns into a disaster. France comes to the rescue; even president Bush is upset, although he won't do anything - not to mention Mr. Putin, the man in charge of the Russian state. But it‘s not too late for some logical thinking and hopefully, after the cold shower served by the Ivans, the Georgeans will now have their sanity restored and will return to producing wine and getting drunk on regular basis instead of fighting bizarre wars they cannot win - not without an ally like Nato and Nato is not very fond of going into an armed conflict with Russia, so wine will have to do in the future.

I am always astonished that people don't realize that all wars amount to nothing except temporary death and destruction. After two world wars and millions of deaths we are back to normal. All the countries, maybe even a few new, have once again returned to life like the bird Phoenix. The result of two world wars except millions of dead and a terrible suffering and destruction: plus minus zero.

It's strange but we never learn and it's like at times we get mad and just need to start killing each other. I wonder if it has to do with the number of people in the world. Some day we get the feeling that there are too many people on Earth and instinctively we decide to reduce the numbers - and killing each other seems like the most efficient, convenient and exciting way. Besides killing there are other perks, too. We get to march, to parade, to dress in fancy uniforms, to stretch our arms in military greetings, to sing old-fashioned military songs in unison, to maim … all very entertaining activities. Why would you want to stay home with kids and wife? Sex gets boring after a while, killing - never.

Marching and singing "heili-heilo" must be every warriors dream, although I am not certain what kind of war songs Georgians like to sing when they do march.

Funny thing that the US has started their new military adventure in Afghanistan of all places. I understand that Osama liked the place - nasty and deserted - but the US? The English couldn't beat them, the Russians lost against them, the Americans will win? It sounds to me like the same old recipe. One (super)power loses the game; another comes to try its muscles. Just like Vietnam. The French lost against the "gooks". It didn't take long for the Americans to fight yet another war against the "gooks" in the name of liberty. Alas, after 50k lost American lives they went home to lick their wounds. But do we learn?

This time the US with its allies want to win the war against Iraq. Sorry, the war is already won but they won't go home, the US is still fighting for a better world, for a democracy for the Arabsm and they will have it, whether they want it or not.

Alas, it seems our Arab friends do not want democracy made in US, possibly they have other, better ideas… Saddam is gone, but why the US is staying is a better question. Can you change a single Arab country into a mini-US. I doubt it.

Do we learn? Of course not, a fifty thousand lives down the road, all of a sudden the next president of the United States, or the one after him, will realize that it's simply now worth it and order a controlled withdrawal. "We never lost the war, we simply to go home, sweet home," he will say and declare the victory.

Killing is always fun - as long as it is you that is doing the killing.
