My Love Was in My Palm by Richard Roberts

RICHARD : Dad, before you began this ministry in 1947, the year before I was born, you put a'fleece,' or petition, before the Lord, asking Him to give you a clear sign that you were to leave the church you were pastoring and go into the healing ministry fulltime- as you thought He had told you to do.
You said to the Lord,'If you are not the God who saves, heals, and delivers folk, then I desire out of this.' And you had a job waiting for you in a men's outfitter, didn't you? Are you able to share a bit about that?
ORAL : Well, I rented a building in central Enid, Oklahoma, where I was pastoring, to hold my service, and I asked God to cure somebody in the service in a way that they'd know it, and I'd know it. In the service, there was a girl who'd had an issue with her arm for 38 years. The movement in her arm became loose and she could freely move it. She started to raise her arm and praise God, crying at the top of her voiceand it truly stirred the spectators to want my prayers. I prayed for the sick that afternoon from three hundred until six hundred, and I returned home realizing that God had answered my prayer.
First we moved to Tulsa for a more central location to airline travel. Then a friend asked if I'd evangelise for him for 2 nights. By the second night, the gang was beginning to grow, and by a couple of days later, you could not get a seat in the tent ; you had to bring your own chair and sit outside of the tent. The power of the Lord God had begun to heal the people, and it was fabulous what was happening!
RICHARD : Something else occurred in those services that caused your name to become known around the planet.
ORAL : Yes, there had been man who had a gun, and he had hate in his heart. The title in the Tulsa paper read,'Evangelist Shot At,' and it was carried on the front pages of paperspapers across America. Pastors saw it and started to telephone me and see whether I might come and pray for the sick in their areas. RICHARD : God took what devil intended for your harm and used it for your good. But it wasn't without persecution and criticism. There were times you actually had to stand before a judge and swear that you did not have some kind of device that you were using when you prayed for people.
ORAL : Yes, in one particular experience they were exclaiming that I had electrical things up my arms. My answer was that if electricity healed people, then everybody should get an electric current! So that answered that.
RICHARD : Dad, I never knew when there would be a miracle in your services, but I'd stand beside you as you prayed. You'd regularly say,'Now, Richard, you touch them,' and I'd do that. I'd put my hand on the back of your coat and I'd be there with you as you laid hands on those despairingly sick folks.
ORAL : Yes, the best miracles of the crusades were frequently in the invalid tent where the majority couldn't see them. Folk got out of wheelchairs and out of beds. They were roaring and rejoicing and crying. And I prayed for every one of them by laying my hands on them. As I laid my hands on folk, God showed me that my heart was in my handsthat my heart was moved toward the people, as Jesus was moved toward people, and thru my hands I took the power of Our Lord God to them. I've always touched folks.
