These are mistakes that keep people whose laptop won't boot from fixing the problem. They end up paying for a costly computer repair, or for a new laptop. Then, they must reinstall all their programs, passwords, and find the data they lost from old backups. They waste hours and days of their time and hundreds of dollars, sometimes thousands, on a new machine. These are the main mistakes: A person whose valuable laptop is not booting gets into a panic mode. Second, they try anything and everything under the sun to resuscitate their precious laptop, They do not take good notes of events, and They seek the information in all the wrong places. Let's look at these mistakes in more detail.

Mistake 1: Getting Into a Panic Mode. Yes, it is understandable that when you are faced with a laptop that will not boot, it can be a nerve-wrecking experience. Perhaps a report for your boss is due if you work for someone or your term paper is due tomorrow if you are student. Perhaps going on the internet is such an integral part of your life that facing no immediate easy access is just a real trying proposition for you. There is no need to panic, really. If you made good backups, the worst case scenario is reinstall everything on your computer and reload the data from the backup. Or get a new laptop and restore the data you had. So don't panic. Instead, take a deep breath. You'll think more clearly and improve your chances of fixing your laptop.

Mistake 2: Desperately Trying Anything and Everything to Revive the Laptop. This is quite unproductive yet a lot of us still do it. We press the F2, F8, F12 or any button after turning the laptop on. We stare at the screen trying to get a sign of life. That is okay to check but without a plan, this may or may not help and is most likely a waste of time.

Mistake 3: Not Taking Good Notes. It is important when your laptop appears unwilling to boot to take good notes of your observations. Not only what you have tried doing to resuscitate the laptop but also what happened prior to the event. Was there anything special going on the day before? Any new software installed? Any system upgrades downloaded and installed? Any new hardware or attachments? Take good notes as you jog your memory about this.

Mistake 4: Seeking Information in All The Wrong Places. The keyword search is important here. Building on the previous point, once you do have good notes, inspect them and try to describe your situation in using good keywords to use in google search. Try "laptop won't start, shows blue screen' or similar. When you do the search right, you will end up finding information usually in forums or blogs. You will find several people describing a similar event and chances are you will find a solution that will work for you and bring your laptop back to life.

So now you know. Try not to make mistakes above and you might be able to resuscitate your failing laptop back to life in no time flat. All you need is just a bit of organization and google search skills. And a bit of good luck.
