Moving House Checklist

While shifting house can be an uphill task here are a few things that you can keep in mind to make the shifting process a bit smoother.

Getting professional movers and packers is the easier, yet costlier route. If you are going to do the packing yourself, ensure that you get enough packing material before you start. No point finding yourself half way through the packing and running short of boxes. Take a few extra at the beginning as we usually tend to under estimate our packing needs.

Hire a truck from a reliable company for the move. Remember this is all your stuff that they will be hauling. Don't be stingy on the cost of the truck. In case you are hiring a van you can drive yourself, make sure you go and have a look at how much load it can take. You don't want to be running around last minute wondering what to do with the extra boxes that would not fit in the truck.

Send out change of address letters to all the companies that you deal with at your home address. Make a list and tick off as you send the letter. Keep adding new names as you remember them. Also leave your new address with your neighbors in case some stray mail floats in.

Get insurance. This is important as you don't know what might happen during the move. While in most cases the move goes smoothly you must have insurance to fall back on just in case. Now you are set to move to your new home.
