Motorcycle Frames

The motorcycle frame purchase game is a little complicated. There are basically three different types of frames you can purchase. I have broke down each and also included a little piece on where to get them.

The
Clean Title
frame is the first choice for all. This basically means that the frame comes from a bike that has no history of accident. The frame is usually in very good condition and comes with a clear of liens and no damage history on the VIN number.

The salvage title frame is the second choice for all. This basically is a frame that has damage history but can either be rebuilt and inspected or has already been reinspected and just needs to be registered to get it back on the road.

The stunt or no title frame is usually for the stunt rider or track only rider and cannot be licensed or placed back on the street. The frame is usually no matter what you do able to be placed back on the street.

The only other frame option is if you already have a frame you can buy a blank frame and have it stamped with your existing title to replace your current frame. You must have the title and old frame in hand and must know in advance all history of the bike will roll forward with the new frame including any damage history or liens.

Now let's talk about where to buy your frame. There are usually not very many choices out there to buy a used frame. One choice is Craigslist and search locally for a frame. Mind your intuition on this one to ensure you do not get scammed by the lurking cl scammers out there. Ebay is a great choice and usually has the best selection and make sure you are negotiating with the sellers. You do not have to always just pay full price or asking price, email these guys offers. And of course last but not least is motorcycle shops and online shops. The prices are usually really high. You can usually be assured they know what frame they have and actual title status on the frame.

Good luck on your frame hunt and I hope this helps. You also can go to http://www.speedpartsfinder.com and use the frame search tools to search craigslist, ebay and other sources directly on the site.
