A seminar on SMEs was organised recently by the Salem branch of Madras Management Association (MMA), where industrialists and other attendants present on the occasion offered valuable advice to small units.
Speaking during the inauguration of the seminar, Srinivasan K. Swamy, chairman and managing director of R K SWAMY BBDO Private Limited, said, "In order to achieve sustainable growth and make use of the lucrative opportunities, SMEs need to adopt a professional approach."
Mr Swamy also urged small industries to increase their contribution to the economic growth of India by identifying and taking advantage of the tremendous growth potential offered by the country.
"In the last few years, the SME sector in India has grown substantially and there still remains immense scope for their development. Small units must tap new avenues and scale up the size of the businesses to enhance their prospects," said Vikas Goyal, senior analyst at Ambuj Research, a small-sized investment advisory firm at Kolkata.
SME entrepreneurs attending the seminar have been called upon to lay more emphasis on competence and have been asked to separate ownership from management.
