An article service which also offers an article submission service recently promoted a fantastic way to make sure that your online business slides down the search engine results, and possibly becomes blacklisted altogether. The article submissions service in question advised producing a single article for your business, and then publishing it simultaneously to several hundred article directories.

This sort of recommendation frustrates me, since there are many deserving sites on the web run by deserving folks such as you and me, who are aiming to raise a decent living. It is companies such as those promoting mass submission of articles that could very easily erase your organisation off the web altogether. I don't know why they do it - either they don't understand the concept of search engines, or they just want a headline grabbing slogan that will earn them a rapid and easy few dollars.

Either way - they care relatively little for your company. Failing to comprehend the idea of search engines, article directories and duplication of content is not an encouraging beginning for an article submission service! But for the unwary online business owner, seeing a website business that will put together a single article and post it hundreds of times for you might seem worthwhile - hundreds of backlinks almost straight away, what could be better?

It may come as no surprise, it does not work this way. Submitting your search engine optimized articles to hundreds of article directories will simply cause hundreds of duplicated articles filling up the net. Search engines take a very negative view of duplicate content, and will do one of two possible things. If you're fortunate they will only discover the first copy of your article and ignore every duplicate copy, or if you're not so lucky, your whole website business will be blacklisted for article spamming. Either way, you've just lost out.

The problem is that article submission sites are often just wanting to be paid an additional price for carrying out very little work. A single, well written, keyphrase optimized article will probably cost you about $15. Yes, there are discount shops online that offer articles for a couple of dollars, but have you ever attempted reading them? And how many actually achieve the top of the search results pages? As with anything, you get what you pay for. However many of these submission services then charge $50-100 to publish your single article to hundreds of sites.

Having said this won't this take them ages to carry out? No - it certainly won't. There are numerous of automatic article submitter software utilities on the net. All they do is produce one article, then paste it into their program and click publish. The complete task is finished in ten minutes - and you've just lost a large sum of cash and have put your web business at severe risk, with no actual possibility of return.

So what must you be doing instead? The solution is simple - remember that there are rarely any quick solutions that last, no cheap solutions worth the money and no lazy means round a difficulty which actually solve it. Rather than using one unimpressive article written and then spammed across the article directories, have several articles written, and post each to just a very select few directories. In this way you avoid duplication of content, don't run the risk of being punished for spamming, and end up with a valuable number of highly rated backlinks, which will do much more good for your website.

Never forget - an article submission service that you can trust is one which will be able to combine an article writing service of high quality with a submission policy which does not put your website at risk. As an article writer myself I have been contacted by businesses who have offered hundreds of dollars to produce and publish duplicated articles, but I have always declined, offering advice that will save their online business. Make certain that you are aware of this widely available pitfall, and guard your web business.
